The new studio is coming together. I hope it will be a peaceful space for working, painting and writing. During the move, I found some paintings I had worked on while we were living in London. I wrote a book as a final project in graduate school -- my intention was to create a safe space that could encourage adults and children to listen to each others' stories. Looking at these paintings now brings back memories of my painting table set up in the corner of our tiny flat in Marylebone. And brings me back to my intention of writing (and painting!)
I have been asked to join the board of AIGA Philadelphia heading the newly formed Mentoring Committee. In late 2009, I approached the board with the idea of starting a mentoring program within the Philadelphia chapter. In the Fall of 2010, we launched AIGA Philly's program -- pairing seasoned designers with seniors in college or young designers within their first five years of practice. That first semester paired 8 mentors with mentees. In three years, the program had grown to 28 pairs -- with a waiting list of four. And the program is now open and accepting applicants on aigaphilly.org for its fourth year of service.
In May, three of DiSanto Design's pieces were chosen to be included in AIGA's 2013 Philadelphia Design Awards. This juried show featured the 100 best designs in the greater Philadelphia region.
